When playing steam version of fc5 a common problem has been reported. Descend and reverse buttons are not mapped when using a controller of any type. I have found a sollution and possibly where the problem lies. The problem is a conflict between the game and the steam controller configuration not being compatible. The solution i have found is in roughly bypassing the steam configuration.
Far cry 5 on pc doesn't detect controller. So I own the game through ubisoft connect and I'm trying to use an xbox controller, but the game just doesn't seem to detect it at all? Start Big Picture, go to your Library, select the Game you have Gamepad Issues with, go to manage Game, Controller Settings (second Option), and their select from the first drop down Menu the option always off, that disables Steamcontroller emulator and enables native support. #1.

I'm not sure if this will work for Steam controllers but I was having the same problem with my PS4 controller emulating as an Xbox controller. Just go into Big Picture, Far Cry 5, Manage Game, Controller Options, Use Steam Configuration for Non-Steam Controllers - Forced Off. That fixed dpad and reversing for me.
